About PuzzlePress
A puzzle typesetting tool that runs entirely on your own machine.
What it is
PuzzlePress turns a short configuration into a complete printable puzzle book: the puzzles, the layout, the page numbers and a matching solutions section. It exists because assembling a puzzle book by hand in a design tool is slow, and because puzzles that have not been checked are worse than no puzzles at all.
Who it is for
Amazon KDP self-publishers first. Formatting an interior to KDP's satisfaction is fiddly and unforgiving. The gutter has to grow with the page count, the page count has to be even, the page size has to match the trim exactly, and none of it has anything to do with making good puzzles. That work is handled here.
It works just as well for teachers and homeschool educators making worksheets, sellers of printables, and anyone who wants a stack of verified puzzles without laying out pages by hand.
How it is built
Four puzzle engines, each paired with a solver and a validator written separately from the generator, so no puzzle is trusted simply because a generator produced it. Generation runs on background threads; the PDF is composed in the browser as vector drawing operations.
Generation is deterministic: a seed and a configuration always produce the same book. That makes reprints and bug reports possible.
What it does not do
- No cover design. This version produces interior manuscripts only.
- No accounts, no cloud library, no syncing between devices.
- No crossword, cryptogram or number-logic engines yet.
- No promise that KDP, or any other store or printer, will accept a given file. We check their published requirements; they make the decisions. We are not affiliated with Amazon.
